The semantic web vision is to be able to link data across different web pages just as seemingly as the current web infrastructure allows one to link web pages. Semantic web technologies were primarily created to annotate data on the web pages with mark-up that any agent crawling the web should be able to interpret. However the semantic mark-ups can be used to represent data and knowledge in a large number of general purpose computing scenarios, hence the applications of semantic web technologies need not be restricted to the semantic web alone. At Metamagics we are investigating the scope of the semantic technologies in development of enterprise applications.
Our core team is working with the key semantic technologies of Resource Description Framework (RDF) and Web Ontology Language (OWL) and using these to capture and represent business knowledge. Some of the areas of research are :-
- Business domain modelling using OWL
- Constraint specification systems
- Semantic annotation and natural language processing
